Once I was boarding a train in China, and I had to help a Chinese lady with her huge bag into the train. Her excuse was that she was on the road for 2 weeks. I looked at my duffle bag and declined to mention I was on the road for 3 months.

Look I have a lot of junk in my life normally. However it is interesting to think how little you actually need. Obviously my laptop is really useful, though these days you could scrap it in favour of a tablet computer or mobile phone. So are a good comfortable pair of shoes that are suitable for nearly every occasion.

If I was really determined I could take 2 pairs of pants, 3 shirts and one dress shirt and some socks and underwear. A nice hat. Credit card and passport of course.

In fact when I really get down to it there isn't that much I really need. When you understand what it is that you need, everything else just falls into place.

Final note: Yes, I need friends and loved ones. The same can be said of people. When I know the ones that I need I can give them priority.
