I am a fan of street art. One of my favourite activities is photographing street art. I love the idea of art being out there for anyone to enjoy whenever they feel like it and at no charge to the viewer. There is a wide variety of styles and street art sure can brighten up a boring car park or a rundown industrial area. When I read that Wonderwalls, a three day street art festival was happening at Port Adelaide on the Australia Day weekend I decided to go.
Last night I planned my trip to Port Adelaide to check out the street art while it was being created. I worked out train and bus times and checked which bus stop I would need to get off at. As I am not a morning person I need to get organised the night before.
When I woke I wasnít feeling energetic. This is my normal pattern as I get more energetic when I have been up and moving for a while. I contemplated not bothering to go to Port Adelaide. After all, the street art will be there for a long time.
However, I made the effort to catch the train as planned. Once in Adelaide I found some streets were blocked off for the Tour Down Under. My bus would take a somewhat different route in the CBD so I had to walk to an alternative stop. Luckily I had plenty of spare time. The bonus was finding some street art on the side of a bridge on my way. Of course I took a few photos.

Once I got to Port Adelaide I found street art being painted on a tall building. Cherry pickers were needed to do the paintings on two sides of the building. The tall paintings can be seen from quite a distance away.

Three artists were working collaboratively on a piece of art at the back of the building. They werenít distracted by the people taking photographs and they were quite happy to answer questions.

After picking up a brochure about the festival I continued on my way. I enjoyed taking photos of some of the old buildings in Port Adelaide in between viewing different pieces of street art. Down one side street I found a tour group looking at a painting of a girl.

There were several pieces of art in different styles prominently positioned on one of the main roads. I chatted to some of the other people taking photographs.

I certainly found my outing inspiring and worth the effort. It was interesting to see the local, interstate and international artists at work. Looking at the paintings, walking in the fresh air and talking to people about the artwork energised me mentally. (I have to admit my legs and feet were aching after all the walking.) As soon as I got home I was inspired to check out my photos and get down to some writing.
