Tim Minchin making the 2013 Occasional Address at the University of Western Australia.
We all need the occasional doona day. But if a doona day stretches into a week, returning to the normal rhythm of life can be challenging. Sources of Inspiration is a series of articles designed to share inspirational and motivational content from around the web. All free, and all easily available to you when you need that extra little push to get out of the front door and take on the world. This time it’s Tim Minchin’s Occasional Address.
In 2013, pianist and comedian Tim Minchin was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Western Australia, where he previously studied for an Arts degree. He was invited to give the Occasional Address at that year’s graduation ceremony, and what followed was a touching and irreverent reflection on learning, collaboration and achievement.
In his words, ‘You might find some of this stuff inspiring, you will find some of it boring, and you will definitely forget all of it within a week.’ Inspiring? Absolutely. Forgettable? Definitely not. I’ve listened to this speech many times over the years, and each time I hear it I feel a renewed sense of determination and purpose. Don’t worry if you can’t enable video or audio: there’s also a full transcript available.
