It can help that others have gone before us, have travelled a similar pathway, have suffered the same struggles and experienced similar feelings. Of course their journey won't have been exactly like ours, but they can help us to make sense of our experience.
The questions they ask themselves, the reasons for doing what they do and the wonder they continue to find can all give us food for thought. This may also get us thinking about our own path in new ways. It might help to consolidate our journey, confirm our pathway, or might give us brand new ideas. We might even begin to question some of our own needs and desires.
Perhaps the best part of learning from others is the sense of community that comes from the experience. Knowing there are other people out there struggling with the same questions, thinking similar things, reaching for similar goals can be helpful. It can be affirming of our own journey, it can guide us and give us courage and strength to continue the journey. It may help us to recognise what the journey is, or that we are actually on a journey. A journey with others.
