I am right in the middle of a very hectic and somewhat stressful week. I have SO much to do in the next few days and I am honestly feeling the pressure.
However..... I have come to learn the importance of a little "down time" each and everyday. And the serious need to laugh as often as humanly possible. The benefits of laughing have long been medically and scientifically proven, but for me... I just like the way it feels. I like the way I feel after a good laugh. And most importantly, I like the way it bonds me to the people I am sharing the laugh with.
My son and I used to have a daily ritual. No matter whatever craziness is going on in our busy schedule, we would find at least half an hour a day to sit and watch something funny. The Office, How I Met Your Mother, Scrubs etc. It doesn't really matter what it is, as long as it makes you feel good and happy. We used it as our bonding time. We even have our own secret language developed over years of watching various sit-coms together. We have many quotes and references that can come up in the course of a day, and when they do, we both have a little chuckle and it just serves to lift and brighten any mood. Now that he moved away to Uni, we still text each other random funny quotes for no particular reason, except to make the other smile and let them know that we are thinking of them.
Sit-coms might not be your thing.... and that's cool. But I firmly believe that no matter how busy and hectic life might get, it is vitally important to squeeze a little down time into each day, each week. Given that we all know how important our health (mental and physical) is.... there is really no excuse good enough, not to take care of ourselves in this way.
