Keep away from the lovey-dovey mixtape

by Jamie0liversgirl (follow)
Love is wonderful, lust is fun and that heady infatuation can be all the more glorious when it's fresh. But, a word of caution, keep away from the mixtape.

You might think you're being kind, sweet, or funny, but the mixtape is relationship suicide. The songs you select have meaning for you, but they may not hold the same value for the other person, no matter how much thought you feel you've put into it.

I honestly think rom coms make the spontaneous love gift seem like compulsory relationship behaviour, when in fact it can often be a very bad idea.

Spontaneity is often lusted after, but a mixtape is not the right idea.

Although, often a gift from one lover to another, go for something more fun: instead of a love song filled mixtape, create a mixtape with songs you both love, the ones you sing at the top of your voice to, not the ones which make you weep in either a 'good' or 'bad' way.

Songs are linked to memories, so go for some fun songs, a playlist of tunes which transport you back to a holiday, or a time when you drove from one city to another and all you played was Journey.

Instead of a cringe-worthy gift, go for something off the cuff. You know your partner/best friend better than anyone so send a message to make them laugh, show you care by sharing a moment, or poking fun at something whatever you do, avoid the teeth-on-edge mixtape!

So true..I made a mix tape for my husband before we got married. I am so glad that I never gave it to him . He would have slept through it !
Hahah! Brilliant! Keep away from the mix-tape!
My now husband gave me a mixed tape when we first met 15 years ago, and I hated it. I would never subject him to my taste in music (pop-punk, heavy metal), and I sure as hell didn't enjoy his. :)
