It's like a calling. Calling us back to nature. Away from the stressors of our day, back to a place where we can catch our breath, tune into our surroundings and remember what's most important.
The beach can provide this place of nature. The gentleness of the waves lapping the shore. Picking up the pieces of seaweed just to re-deposit them again. The sounds of the sea birds communicating with each other although it could sound like they are calling out to greet you.
Sharing the place with the birds, with the unseen other sea creatures and the few other humans venturing out to enjoy the space as well. Gentle greetings of each other, not to interrupt but to acknowledge the sharing of this space. The privileging of time and energy that allows you both to be here.
It's not always so gentle. Sometimes the waves are rough, the birds are loud, the people noisy. At those times, the place is not one of calm but one of energy. Like life, nothing stays the same in these places. Capturing the moments to appreciate what they offer is the best we can do.
