There are some days that seem a bit ordinary, a bit plain, a bit dull even. These days don't seem to have much happening. But they can be days we can enjoy the calm, enjoy the quietness and enjoy the opportunity to just get on with the day.
These days can be in such stark contrast to those days that seem to stand out in our life. Days that are not so ordinary. Days that don't go as planned, when things go wrong or we don't achieve what we set out to achieve. They might be the days when we make a mistake or do something we will regret later. They might be days when we receive news we'd rather not hear.
So learning to enjoy the ordinary days, when nothing much happens, when nothing goes particularly badly, can provide us with some balance. We can appreciate the ebb and flow of life. Take the down time as an opportunity to catch our breath, to take stock perhaps. Certainly to give ourselves a break and not put pressure on ourselves. The more interesting or challenging days will come soon enough.
It's this ebb and flow of life that keeps it interesting I guess. Too many ordinary days can make life dull. Not enough ordinary days can be simply exhausting. Some weeks and months can be dominated by one or the other. Finding the balance between them might just be one of life's great challenges.
