This might actually seem like a bit of a rant, and in some ways it is.
I received an email forward tonight. You know the kind. One of those hate filled, propaganda emails, designed to remind people of how righteous they are and how wrong everyone who is different from them is.
we are all in this together
Those kinds of emails, and those kinds of posts on any form of social media, really bug me. They have no valid place within a society whose aim it is to make things better for all citizens, regardless of personal philosophy or ideology.
And aren't we after all, just citizens of the world. Tonight I watched the TV show Cosmos (the remake of the Carl Sagan classic), and it showed the very first picture of the planet Earth as seen from space. Nothing illustrates better the truth that we are all in this together and there is no-one on the face of that Earth that is NOT your neighbour.
You don't have to like everything that everybody else does. You don't have to agree with everyone else's thoughts and opinions. But we do all have to learn to co-exist, and acceptance and tolerance is a great part of that process.
Next time you receive one of those hate filled emails, or you read such a post on social media... just stop... and think before you automatically hit the "forward" or "share" button. Are you being part of the solution, or are you just adding to the problem.
