One of biggest secrets to a happy and fulfilled life is balance.

Balance in all facets of your life.

Balance is the Secret

Youíve probably heard this being quoted a number of times before, but how much notice do you actually take of it? How much conscious effort do you put into finding a balance in everything you do?

Sometimes we get so caught up in something, studying for exams and doing a pile of essays due at once; working overtime on that big proposal; busting a gut at the gym; running yourself ragged keeping the house spotless; following that hard core diet. We think at the time that these things are essential. We canít avoid them, there is no other option. We need to be a success in everything we do!

I am guilty of this behaviour, I admit it. A self proclaimed perfectionist who has to give 110% to everything.

Don't Fall Though the Hole of Excess

The perfect example of this presented itself today. We have been busting our chops to get My Inspired Life up and running and make it a real success. Itís been so much fun! So exciting! And so hectic! I have been completely caught up in this project for the past few weeks, almost 24/7. I havenít slept, havenít eaten, have been stressed beyond belief at times, even ended up sick for a while as a result.

Then this weekend the hub went offline temporarily and I almost breathed an audible sigh of relief. It was the chance to take a legitimate break, one that my subconscious had been screaming at me that I needed.

I looked around the house at the shambles that faced me and gulped. I looked at my bored teenage daughter home with nothing to do this weekend. I told her ok, come on, letís pitch in together and do an hour or two of washing and cleaning up then we will get out of here for the afternoon. The sun is out, itís a nice afternoon.

And that is exactly what we did.

We walked in the sunshine, treated ourselves to a nice lunch, window shopped, and had a lovely chat. I came home and felt so refreshed, so completely relaxed.
That article Iíd been struggling with writers block over simply fell into place. The words flowed so easily.

Find your Success through Balance

So when you are on that strict diet, donít forego a treat now and then, you will more likely stick to it long term and be successful.

If your studying your hardest at the end of semester. Stop and take a break for an hour or two. Watch your favourite shows, go for a walk, or play a game with your kids. What does it really matter at the end of the day if you end up with a distinction instead of a high distinction? Youíll be so much happier and healthier for it.

Leave work an hour earlier and go have a nice dinner out as a reward for all those late nights of overtime. The project will still be there in the morning.

The housework doesnít need to be done all in one day, it will still be there tomorrow. Get outside while that sunshine is still gloriously warm on your face.

Take a night off from the gym and go to a movie, your body will enjoy a well earned rest.

Nothing is so Important as to Dominate Everything

Whatever you do; in all aspects of your life; always remember how important it is to maintain a healthy balance.

Nothing is ever so imperative as to monopolise all of your time and energy and sap you of your health and happiness. And you never know, it might just be the key to success you were so desperately seeking.
