Research has suggested that a good posture can contribute towards a healthier mind.
In the short term, sitting straight or walking tall will help you feel stronger and more confident. Have you ever felt more powerful when you put on a pair of heels? That is probably because wearing heels forces you to pull your shoulders back and stand taller.
Research by Erik Peper of San Francisco State linked the effect of exercise to the effect of skipping. He found that all subjects were more alert and had increased energy levels when holding a good posture, just the same as skipping. It follows that sitting sitting collapsed results in powerless and negative emotions.
It is clear that the mind and body are linked. We already know that the mind sends signals to the body. But the body also sends signals to the mind! So standing tall, sitting up straight and walking tall will help to keep negative feelings at bay and fill your mind with feelings of power and confidence.
