We all know that not all things go to plan. Some days, the world seems particularly bent on making everything go the exact opposite way of what we hoped. However, sometimes disruption allows us to re-evaluate what is truly important in our lives, or opens up opportunities we never dreamed of.
"Colorful Journey" by Ramnath Bhat
When I was sixteen I took a wrong turn on my way home from school. As a result, I bumped into an old friend. We got to chatting, and she mentioned that she was on her way to a meeting of the town’s youth council – Perhaps I would like to come along? Soon enough I was trotting along beside her.
While I admit the meeting itself wasn’t that exciting, it did put me in touch with a man who asked me to get involved with a not-for-profit organisation that ran two- to five-day camps for adults with intellectual disabilities. So began some of the best times of my life, as I worked long, rewarding hours with like-minded people, assisting those in need. Thank goodness I took a wrong turn on my way home from school that day!
Such stories are powerful because they remind us that life doesn’t have to go to plan. That even in the midst of mishap or disaster something wonderful might blossom. Even in the most mundane of days, a simple walk home can lead you to a chapter of your life you wouldn’t otherwise have ever thought possible.
